Sofiyivka Park: Romantic Garden Paradise

Explore one of Europe's most beautiful landscape parks in Uman.

Sofiyivka Park in Uman is one of the most remarkable landscape gardens in Europe, created in the early 19th century as a gift and named after its recipient Sophia. Today it's a National Arboretum covering 179 hectares of sculpted nature.

The park was designed to evoke the landscapes of ancient Greece, with features named after characters from Greek mythology. The underground river Styx, the Elysian Fields, the Island of Aeaea, and the Grotto of Fear and Doubt transport visitors into a mythological dreamworld.

Water is the park's central element — artificial lakes, cascades, fountains, and underground streams create a constantly changing soundscape. The Upper Lake and Lower Lake are connected by a waterfall, and rowing boats allow visitors to explore from the water.

The botanical collection is equally impressive, with over 2,000 species of trees and shrubs including ancient oaks, Lebanese cedars, and weeping willows. Spring visits reward with dramatic cherry blossom displays, while autumn transforms the park into a palette of golds and reds.
